It's been a very dry season until now, the nights have been quite cool so some parts of the garden are later than usual, and some things love this weather. I have enjoyed a great year for roses and right now for day lilies.
But as with all gardeners the gardens occupying my mind the most are the new areas and areas under development. There's nothing like watching a new planting start out in spring as new plants from seed, or from divisions of older plants and combining them full of expectation and watching what happens. Sometimes a plant isn't quite as good as you hoped, or flowers earlier than you expected, but sometimes nature just takes over in a profusion of foliage and flower exceeding all hopes as a reward for all the garden dreaming. This is what keeps a gardener going. It's the hope of creating something beautiful, like a work of art with nature at its centre.
My new areas are the garden at the bottom of the Zig Zag with a perennial planting merging visually with the wetland at the bottom of the garden as well as continuing the native plantings.
I think photos say far more than I can about the look I am trying to achieve in the perennial plantings. Plants are massed together and intermeshing in a very natural way, using many grasses and tall transparent plants to create a slightly hazy look. I'm still learning and happily will be improving these areas forever.
